THIS BLOG is NOW RETIRED

I began this blog in May 2009 following the death of Marcia Powell at Perryville State Prison in Goodyear, Arizona. It is not intended to prescribe the path that leads to freedom from the prison industrial complex.

Rather, these are just my observations in arguably the most racist, fascist, militaristic state in the nation at a critical time in history for a number of intersecting liberation movements. From Indigenous resistance to genocidal practices, to the fight over laws like SB1070 and the ban on Ethnic Studies, Arizona is at the center of many battles for human rights, and thus the struggle for prison abolition as well - for none are free until all are. I retired the blog in APRIL 2013.

David Rovics: We Are Everywhere

To my fellow activists now struggling through life - let this be a reminder that you are not alone and that we desperately need you here. All the injustice, grief, war, and human suffering calls for us to stay and do everything we can about it - you can't help us anymore when you're gone. Don't give up the fight - your last shred of hope may just keep someone else alive, too.

Political Prisoners: 1000 People for the Cuban Five.

From our friends at the Jericho Movement and with the Pro Libertad Campaign. Whatever you think of the Cuban 5 (I think they were trying to protect the Cuban public from extremist violence by US groups, myself, and the FBI should have been investigating the group they infiltrated, not arresting them), they aren't even calling for their realase at this point - they're trying to get visas for their families because they've been isolated from them for so long. Surely of all the people who drop in here, some of you can hit this petition for us. If you have facebook or something, consider setting up a link for your friends to hit too. You can find more info about these guys at their website, or Google for something more "objective". I've read enough documents and analyses myself to stand in solidarity with them.

Thanks.

SIGN THIS PETITION AND FORWARD OUT THIS MESSAGE WORLDWIDE!

OUR GOAL IS TO REACH 1000 SIGNATURES BY INTERNATIONAL WORKING WOMEN'S DAY (Monday March 8, 2010)!
Once we reach our goal we will mail, email and fax the petition to President Obama's office!

The Popular Education Project to Free the Cuban 5 has drafted a petition asking President Obama to grant Visas to the families of the Cuban 5.

As we enter this new year, we feel now is a good time to bring up the US government’s continual denial of visas for the Cuban 5 families; which has kept both Rene Gonzalez and Gerardo Hernandez from seeing their wives for the past eleven years.

If President Obama is really pro-family and wants to improve the reputation of the United States, as a "beacon of justice and democracy", then we need to demand he end this horrible separation of families and this psychological torture.

Please sign this petition and forward this link to all your friend and families.  HELP US MAKE OUR GOAL!
