To all my AZ friends/family: Thanks so much for your and likes and hope and encouraging words these past 4 1/2 years. You helped me survive some of the loneliest days and hardest nights I've endured yet by keeping our connections alive across 2000 miles.

My 55th birthday is June 13, 2019, and I plan to celebrate it in PHX (details to be announced). I'm leaving Michigan (god willing) by May 25 - and should land in an undisclosed location in the Deep Southwest soon after.

I began this blog in May 2009 following the death of Marcia Powell at Perryville State Prison in Goodyear, Arizona. It is not intended to prescribe the path that leads to freedom from the prison industrial complex.

Rather, these are just my observations in arguably the most racist, fascist, militaristic state in the nation at a critical time in history for a number of intersecting liberation movements. From Indigenous resistance to genocidal practices, to the fight over laws like SB1070 and the ban on Ethnic Studies, Arizona is at the center of many battles for human rights, and thus the struggle for prison abolition as well - for none are free until all are. I retired the blog in APRIL 2013.

No More Deaths, and No to Arpaio.

In case anyone missed it, there's a huge march coming up here this weekend....everyone's organizing their people...this in from No More Deaths-Phoenix. Note at the bottom they need trained volunteers for the desert next week.



Below are activities and updates for No More Deaths for this week:

1.  Saturday, January 16 - Massive Civil Rights March in Phoenix

Little Joe y La Familia !! 

Join us!!  March for Human Rights!!  Thousands of people from across the country are coming to Phoenix this Saturday to end the criminalization of immigrants.

Time: 10:00am

Where: Falcon Park, 3420 W Roosevelt and then March to encircle Tent City and rally north of Durango

No More Deaths will be there...walk with us as we say "Humanitarian Aid is NOT a Crime!"  We are all going to wear our NMD t-shirts!
2.  Friday - Sunday, January 22-24:  NMD-Phoenix Arivaca Weekend
We need volunteers to come and spend the weekend in the desert the 22nd-24th.  You must already be trained to volunteer.  Send me an e-mail ASAP if you're able to volunteer.

We hope to see everyone out this Saturday!!  Be sure to bring water, sunscreen and comfortable shoes...we'll be walking about 4 miles.
